The DeSoto

A model for public-private development in the arts, the DeSoto is located in Portland’s North Park Blocks. Winkler Development Corporation redeveloped the former retail Daisy Kingdom building, transforming it into a commercial condominium project for the arts and creative service communities. The DeSoto is an innovative example of how New Market tax credits, which are intended to encourage development in struggling neighborhoods, can be utilized to promote cultural organizations in tandem with urban redevelopment. The building opened in 2007.
